During week two of my internship, I got a little but more involved and am starting to see how the kids actually act. Although they talk very loud at every second of the class, they do listen to an extant. They have started to recognize me more and are saying "hello Mrs. King" and "goodbye Mrs. King". I'm staring to enjoy the classroom atmosphere and I don't think middle school will be that bad.

Today a legal studies academy student gave a presentation on copyright laws involved in education. I learned that in education, you are allowed to reproduce copies, able to show videos that aid to learning, able to perform copyrighted material if used for learning. The student also showed us teacher tube which is a form of YouTube but for educational purposes. It was neat to see how similar it is to YouTube but how much more useful it actually is.
During my first week of internship, I felt scared. I felt like my placing was a mistake on my part and that I did not want to be placed in the middle school for my internship. The kids were too loud and disrespectful. They would talk over the teacher and scream across the classroom. My cooperating seems nice and very cooperating. She talked to me about maybe planning a lesson soon. I feel like my internship is not going to go smoothly.
What do you think are the most effective instructional strategies? Why? One take away from the symposium is when the old woman talked at the end. She was talking about her interest with children and how she liked to observe them. She told a story of a little kid throwing dirt at another child and the mother told him to stop. The child did not stop, but instead did it when his mother wasnt looking.
At th observations, I think they will o pretty smoothly. I don't really know what to expect except the norm. I hope they are as good as the book readings were!
This past Tuesday and Thursday our VTFT class went to Alanton Elementary and read to the children there. My favorite memory while I was reading to the kids was when I read to first graders in room 9. The kids loved the books I read to them as when I read No David the kids all shouted out in an organized manor what David was doing wrong. After my experiences at the Elemtary school, I realized that if I took the course to Teach for a living, that I'd want to teach first grade.
I really like this activity because it gave me a taste of what kids go through everyday that have disabilities. I had the earplugs and it simulated me not being able to hear (being deaf). When Mrs. Frierman would give directions, I could barely hear them. I would be so confused because I wouldn't get the whole jist of everything she was saying. So I had to follow everybody and just do what they were doing. If I was deaf, I would have so many headaches and would probably be addicted to aspirin because of the constant confusion I would have. I don't know how deaf people get by from day to day.
One take away I had from this week was when Mrs. Gresham came in and talked to us about special education. I felt like she have me a better in depth understanding of what classifies people as special Ed. My younger brother Joey has disgraphia and dyslexia. The fact that she touched on these gave me a personal feel to the presentation. I would very much like to have her come back in and talk soon!
My groups puppet show was actually a skit and I feel like the kids at Cooke Elementary enjoyed it a lot. Many kids, in fact most of them, participated in the skit when I asked them questions. The kids all laughed and had fun and I feel like our time at Cooke was very appreciated by the teachers and as well as the students. I enjoyed presenting the skit to the kids because I feel like they took something from the experiences. I would change giving the kids gummie worms until after the show that way they know exactly why we were giving them gummie worms.

AuthorI am Madison King and I am currently a junior at First Colonial High School. My dream is to become a high school teacher, and I am in the Virginia Teacher's for Tomorrow class. I cannot wait to be a future teacher. I love to play softball. Part of the reason why I love it is because it takes up most of my time. One of my favorite quotes is "live like you were dying". This quote has significance to me because I live everyday like its my last because ill never know when I will die and I want to live life to it's fullest. I want to build a strong relationship with my students so that they can come to me and feel comfortable with talking to me about anything, sort of like what Mrs. Frierman does with our class.
