How the Internship changed me

For my internship, I interned with Mrs. Murphey and Mrs. Martin's 7th grade history class. At the beginning of the internship, I thought I would hate my whole time at the internship. The kids were really annoying and loud. They were constantly having side conversations while Mrs. Murphey was trying to teach. They were always constantly off task and not prepared for class. I definitely wanted to switch out of the class after my first day, but I stuck with it and pulled through till the end of the year.
Towards the middle of my time with Mrs. Murphey, I started to enjoy my time there. The kids started to recognize me and remember my name. After I gave my first lesson on the Civil Rights Movement, the kids fell in love with me for some reason. Maybe because it was I used a new kind of technology they had never seen before. After that day I started to really get involved in my internship.
On my last few days of my internship, my kids were in different classes because of the SOL schedule. Although I didn't get to see my kids a lot, I saw them in the hallways before I went into class. One girl in particular named Haley would always see me and say, "Hey Ms. King! Are you coming into class today? I really want you to so you can see what I've been working on for my 21st century superhero! I love you!"
My internship taught me to get to know something before you completely make up your mind. At the beginning I had a first impression that wasn't very good, but as my time at Lynnhaven increased, I began to love it. Mrs. Murphey and Mrs. Martin's students became my own and I hate knowing I won't ever get to teach them again. The internship made me decide on what career path I want to take in the future. I definitely want to become a teacher and I cant wait until next year when I can have another internship doing what I love, teaching. My next obstacle is deciding on what grade I want to teach. Hopefully next year's internship will help me decide!
